Donna Schempp

Former Director, Family Caregiver Alliance

Bachelors of Psychology (BS), Licensed Social Worker (LCSW)

Donna Schempp is a licensed clinical social worker and has worked in the field of aging for the past 30 years. She has been a social worker in home care and hospice, at UCSF Memory and Aging Clinic, a geriatric care manager, a therapist in private practice, clinical supervisor and, for the past ten years, was Program Director at Family Caregiver Alliance helping to support family caregivers as they care for their loved ones.

As her father declined into Alzheimer's disease, and her mother became terminally ill with cancer, she learned to put into practice that which she had always done professionally. She has written extensively about family caregiving, especially related to caring for someone with dementia.

Donna is past president of the Board of Directors of Planning for Elders in the Central City as well past chair of the Ethics Committee of Center for Elder Independence. She is a master gardener with Alameda County and enjoys growing her own vegetables. She is co-convener of At Home With Growing Old, which is a salon for people to talk about issues of aging for themselves and their community.

Donna has presented widely on caregiving and aging issues, working with the Veteran's Administration on their new caregiver program for Iraqi and Afghani vets, presenting workshops for the American Society on Aging, Northern California Case Managers, Alabama TBI Association, Alzheimer's Association of Arizona, AARP, as well as many local venues.
